Important Dates

  • August 14 - If additional opt-in has been requested by Valve: deadline to register for the event, opt-in to marketing materials permissions, enter a discount, and ensure you have at least one trailer set to public.
  • September 21 - Trailer announcing the event launches, at which point you're welcome to share your participation in the event. Please see the asset kit below.

Released games, unreleased games, demos, and free to play games are all welcome to participate (assuming the below eligibility criteria are met). Playtests are not currently included in Steam themed sale events.

This event is targeted toward games that are primarily thought of as one of these types of games:

  • Shoot 'em up
  • Twin stick shooters
  • Bullet hell

Participating games typically feature mechanics and/or elements including:

  • More bullets on screen than can be counted
  • Top-down or side-scroll gameplay (though FPS examples exist)
  • Moving forward through waves of enemies, collecting limited-use power-ups, and spraying bullets

The primary gameplay mechanic should be one of the above; games that only include a SHMUP segment are not a fit for this event.
